A Birder's Guide to Churchill (Manitoba: Aba/Lane Birdfinding Guide)
Published in Paperback by American Birding Association Sales (January, 1994)
Author: Bonnie Chartier
Average review score:

Birders delight
Bonnie writes from years of birding trips to Churchill. Other fauna as well as flora are listed. Maps for easy location of sites as well as trail information is listed, including polar bears alerts. Especially useful: front cover graph, by month, of most likely to be seen birds. Up to date town/motel/rentals/tour with addresses/phone numbers is great. Don't count on colored photographs...there are few. Take your favorite North American Birding Guide along with Chartier's to Churchill.

Breakdown Lane, Traveled: An Anthology of Writings on Madness
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (August, 2002)
Author: Julie Greene
Average review score:

What she sees when she looks at herself
It's a remarkable set of stories. The author is in remission after decades of severe illness, and looks back at her own past. The stories, individually, range from the comical and embarassing to dark and disturbing. As a collection, they seem to form a research notebook, trying all the different ways to make sense of the facts of her life. There seems to be a lot of truth in each story and a lot of fiction. It's not always clear how much of each, but I don't think that really matters. If you have any empathy at all, it's not an easy read. It may well be worthwhile, though.

Breakdown Lane: Poems (Johns Hopkins: Poetry and Fiction)
Published in Paperback by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (May, 1994)
Author: Robert Phillips
Average review score:

good collection of poems
Breakdown Lane is one of the latest collections of poems by Robert Phillips (as far as i know, only the awesome _Spinach Days_ has followed). While not as good as spinach days, breakdown lane is a worthy collection. It starts with "Face to Face" which is what i feel is Phillips' best poem. The collection is divided into four sections, and only section 2, full of those poems about lost love, is weak.

The Broken Circle
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (February, 2001)
Author: Gloria Lane
Average review score:

The Broken Circle is Captivating
Being a big reader of mystery/romance novels I find The Broken Circle holds your attention from beginning to end better than some I have read lately. It was very hard to put down as I didn't want to have to wait to see what the characters did next. Suspenseful and exciting to see the plot unfold. It kept me hoping for the best but expecting the worst from/for the main characters. I will definately read this book a second time and cannot wait to get the other books Gloria Land has put out.

GREAT BOOK!

A Clandestine Courtship (Signet Regency Romance)
Published in Paperback by Signet (January, 1999)
Authors: Allison Lane and Allison Lane
Average review score:

almost five stars
I really enjoyed reading this book but it is far from being Allison Lane's best (that would be "The second Lady Emily"). The story is about a man who after ten years absence returns home in order to find out who murdered the beast his twin brother was. For this he seeks the help of his former childhood friend Mary with whom he falls in love. The hero thinks a little too much with his groins (otherwise the book is chaste enough) and is quite stuborn, but is likeable enough. The heroine is clever and self-reliant (like all heroines in Lane's books), but only to an extent still believable for the time setting. The crime story in this book gives a nice plot. However, I was a little disappointed when the murderer turned out to be somebody barely mentioned in the book.

Cognitive Neuroscience of Emotion
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (15 January, 2000)
Authors: Richard D. Lane, Lynn Nadel, and Geoffrey Ahern
Average review score:

Great.
Emotion had been largely ignored in cognitive neuroscience until some year ago (with LeDoux, Damasio, Panksepp leading the way) Now, there are various attempts to restore emotion as a very important and fruitfull line of research. Cognition cannot be understood stripped of emotion. This book is a collection of the many issues in affective neuroscience. There are various papers dealing with its neuronal correlates, its place in the cognitive hierarchy, with value, its conscious expression, among many other things. Emotion is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, and cognitive neuroscience is trying to explain it from many prespectives. This book is the culmination of these attempts. Must-read for anyone interested in emotion and neuroscience.

Helpful textbook for pediatric dermatology
This book is covers a very concise and clear area of Pediatric Dermatology. The index is easy to use and photographs are clear. It should be a very useful reference book for any busy pediatric practice or for those pediatric residents studying for the Pediatric Boards.

Constitutions and Political Theory
Published in Hardcover by Manchester Univ Pr (December, 1996)
Author: Jan-Erik Lane
Average review score:

A good book in Constitutional Philosophy!
A good text book for Law as well as students of Political Science. The author deserves kudos on his lucid explanation of "How a piece of paper, which is called 'Constitution' is related with the concept of 'Constitutionalism'." A must for Constitutional Lawyers as well. "GOOD WORK"

Corporate Financial Management, Second Edition

Authors: Douglas R. Emery, John D. Finnerty, W. Ronald Lane, and John D. Stowe

Great introductory level corporate finance book!
I used this book as an undergraduate at UW-Madison and a graduate at UVa. I found the material helpfull and easy to understand. Great for the undergraduate course, however it is not up to par for graduate level analysis.
